August 7-10, Downtown Los Angeles The Sundance NEXT FEST summer festival,
headquartered at the Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, celebrates the intersection of film and music and the renegade
spirit of independent artists.
NEXT FEST will present the Los Angeles premieres of six films that first screened at the 2014 Sundance
Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and offer unfettered creativity and fresh perspectives. The program features
a zombie love story, an Iranian-set vampire movie, a modern tale of buried treasure, a thriller about a
mysterious soldier, and films that explore the perils of artistic ambition amongst gang life in Watts and the literary
world of New York respectively.
Tall Ships Festival LA
August 20-24, San Pedro Keep your eyes on the horizon as more than a dozen grand boats sail
into the Port of LA for the Tall Ships Festival. The four-day fest kicks off with the Parade of Sail, where an extra $150 will
get you aboard a featured vessel as it sails into the port. Each day, the fest features on-board tours, land-only admission
and daily sailing opportunities. Elsewhere on the waterfront, attendees will find musical performances, nautical demos—a la
sword fighting and cannon blasts—and a food and craft fair.
Eat | See | Hear
August 23, 8400 Gregory Way, Beverly Hills A summer-long celebration of food, movies and music!
Eat|See|Hear comes to Beverly Hills on Saturday, August 23rd and will showcase the beloved classic fairy tale, the Princess Bride.
Seating is on a very large, grassy lawn. You'll want to bring pillows, cushions and blankets. This outdoor movie event is
dog-friendly and welcomed with free biscuits at the door at every Eat|See|Hear outdoor movie event!
Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival
August 23, Santa Monica The fourth annual Food & Wine Festival in Downtown and Santa Monica starts
Thursday night with unlimited tastings on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (your ticket gets you access to every food and wine tent);
cooking demonstrations; celebrity chefs and personalities, like Graham Elliot, Guy Fieri, Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, Michael Chiarello
and Robert Irvine; and live entertainment that lasts until Sunday evening. The weekend’s highlights include a chef charity challenge
that pits two teams of local and celebrity chefs against each other and the Asian Night Market, which draws in chefs from all over LA
on Friday night.
10th Annual Art Deco Festival
August 28-Sept. 1, Queen Mary, Long Beach Make Labor Day Weekend a 1930’s one with total
immersion into Art Deco’s architecture, design, music, art, fashion, parties and more on the Queen Mary. Drink, dine, dance,
learn and discover the opulence of this by-gone era through lectures, tours, parties, music, tastings and dancing. One of the
greatest Maritime Monarchs in history also boasts one of the largest collections of Art Deco in the World. The 10th Annual Art
Deco Festival is presented by the Queen Mary in association with the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.
